“Annual Conference of JSAI” is the main conference of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence (JSAI), which is held annually. In which major AI researchers (mainly from Japan) present their researches (mainly in Japanese).

The 26th Annual Conference of JSAI (JSAI2012) will be held from 12th June 2012 to 15th June 2012 in Yamaguchi city, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. (City information: http://www.japan-i.jp/explorejapan/chugoku/yamaguchi/)

JSAI2012 will have “international organized sessions.” An organized session is a type of an invited session for which researchers organize a session with very novel or advanced theme and collect excellent papers. “International” means that presenters will be coming from all over the world, presentations will be performed in English, and papers will be written in English. Of course organizers will be able to call and invite speakers in their session.

Call for Papers: International Organized Sessions

We are now calling papers for the following international organized sessions. (We will add some sessions.)

IOS-1: Application Oriented Principles of Machine Learning and Data Mining

Organizers

Aims

This session deals with applications of ML/DM, but the focus is on principles and algorithms of ML/DM in their applications. This session would provide opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss with common bases of ML/DM via a cross domain which sometimes becomes a breakthrough of a research. The topics of relevance for this session include but not limited to the following:

  • Extension, modification, or adaptation of ML/DM algorithm to a domain
  • A novel application of ML/DM algorithm
  • A novel methodology of applying ML/DM algorithm
  • Finding a novel issue against ML/DM that is derived from an application
  • Building a benchmark dataset and/or establishing an evaluation guideline that makes ML/DM researchers easier to enter into a novel application domain
  • Developing a ML/DM tool in a novel application

IOS-2: Alan Turing Year Special Session on AI Research That Can Change The World

Aims

Alan Turing made a tremendous impact on the fields of computer science and artificial intelligence, and his ideas are also very influential in the mathematical theory of computation and developmental biology. June 2012 is the Centenary of Alan Turing’s birth, and by organizing our special session we wish to pay tribute to him and his great mind. In order to gather a wide variety of papers, we have set a broad range of topics to encourage participants to think about how their research could change the world – as Alan Turing’s research is constantly changing it even now. We believe that new ideas emerge on the borderlines between various fields, and as such we encourage submissions in English explaining your topic in a manner that allows researchers from other fields to easily comprehend your achievements, and also to imagine how your topic could be useful in other areas. Moreover, as the title of the session suggests, we ask potential contributors to introduce their vision of how influential their research is or could be in our everyday lives. Papers will be considered as candidates for a journal we are planning for late 2012. Your contribution should not exceed 10 pages and will be reviewed by an international program committee to preserve the quality of the proceedings.

Aims

The World Wide Web has been deemed as the age for AI renaissance by Daniel E. O’Leary 15 years ago when WWW exhibited an exponential growth at the first three years in 1997. As abundant information is generated with cost-free, instantaneous publication, many techniques and methods are developed and applied for dealing problems such as information retrieval, natural language processing, opinion mining, product recommendation, information integration, social network analysis, and other intelligent applications. The special session aims to bring together the researchers in the field of Web intelligence and data mining to present the latest studies. We will expect the submissions from researchers of TAAI and JSAI communities, but we will also welcome submissions from all over the world.

A special issue from New Generation Computing Journal will be published in July 2013. Around 20% of excellent papers in the international organized sessions will be selected for the NGC publication. Another 30% of excellent papers from the international organized sessions will be published in Transactions of JSAI, etc., under the agreement of the authors.

We are now calling international organized session proposals. No restrictions other than the three conditions mentioned above will be imposed.

Organizers of International Organized Sessions must conduct the following:

  • select a novel or an advanced topic for artificial intelligence, or an interdisciplinary (with AI) topic.
  • collect several (excellent) papers on the topic.
  • make a program of the session and participate in the JSAI2012 as a chair person.

Submitted papers must adhere to the paper format of JSAI2012. Information of paper format and paper length limitations etc. can be obtained from JSAI2012’s website (https://www.ai-gakkai.or.jp/jsai2012/).

For your information, the theme of the JSAI 2012 is “Culture, scientific technologies, and future.” We would be delighted if you consider this there. However, it is not your obligation to follow it. All proposals will be reviewed from the JSAI2012’s scope and several sessions regarded as suitable to JSAI2012 will be selected.

  • Proposal Acceptance Notification: 21st December 2011

No international organized session will be programmed in parallel. Therefore, participants of international organized sessions will be able to participate in all international organized sessions. In addition, we will have two invited keynotes (Prof. Setsuo Arikawa etc.). Those keynote talks will be simultaneously translated to English.

Moreover, we are planning to have a special issue from New Generation Computing (under proposal) Journal, which will be issued in July 2013. Around 20% of excellent papers in the international organized sessions will be selected for the NGC publication. Another 30% of excellent papers from the international organized sessions will be published in the JSAI journal, etc., under the agreement of the authors.
