概要 | Logical conjunction and disjunction are expressed in the form of ``A, B and/or C" in English. On the other hand, mere sequences of comma often denote conjunction or disjunction as in ``A, B, C," in Japanese; otherwise, multiple conjunctive or disjunctive particles are inserted after each noun phrase as in ``A-to B-to C." This paper claims that commas between noun phrases always represent conjunction in Japanese, and that disjunctive reading is obtained through conventional implicature. |
